Dear
Hudson Division ARRL Member,
I need a favor. I am asking you to support my work as Hudson Division
Director by voting for J.P. Kleinhaus, W2XX, to continue as Vice Director for
the next three years.
He has my trust and respect and perhaps, most importantly, I know that I can count on him to support my efforts in enforcement, tower rights, and spectrum protection. I think you agree that these are important issues. J.P. has quietly been doing that for the past four years without great fanfare and we have become an effective team in the process. We are working together and not competing with each other. We both realize that getting the job done is more important than satisfying our egos. I must tell you that on more than one occasion J.P. has kept me from making a bad decision by letting me know in private what he really thought about a particular plan. I have been repeatedly impressed with his tact and loyalty. So, please, when you get your ballot in the mail, check off J.P. and mail it back to Newington.
The position of Vice Director is one designed to support
the Director and fill in for him if he is unable to attend any of the ARRL Board
meetings. I would like to see him
continue to support my agenda and me.
If anything he is perhaps even more committed than I am to PRB-1 tower
issues. You may not be aware that
he had his own battle with his town in Westchester over a building permit.
It took two years and legal bills of over $20,000 for him to prevail.
He understands the problems of restrictive ordinances all too well.
He has been a key part of our New York State tower bill effort and was
instrumental in keeping a 95-foot height requirement in the bill.
Traditionally ARRL presidents do not appoint Vice
Directors to committees unless they feel they have real expertise in a
particular area. Only five out of
the fifteen Vice Directors presently serve on a single committee.
J.P., however, is the one of only two Vice Directors who sits on two
committees. He is the board liaison
to the Public Relations Committee which furthers nationwide efforts to raise
public awareness of amateur radio through the news media.
He is also a member of the recently formed Spectrum Strategy Committee.
In his work as a computer network professional, J.P. spends a great deal
of time tracking the latest developments in some of the part 15 device threats
we face such as “Bluetooth,” a technology that will soon be implemented to
allow peripherals to communicate with home computers without physical
connections. Almost two years ago
he began to alert board members to some of the dangers we faced because of the
imminent implementation of this new technology on certain amateur microwave
bands.
J.P. is an asset to me as Director and to the Hudson
Division as he gets our interests represented to a greater extent on the
committees on which he serves. Were
he not the Hudson Division Vice Director we would lose his expertise and his
place on these committees. A
successor from the Hudson Division would not be assigned to serve in his place.
It is almost certain that the other candidate would be appointed to no
ARRL committees. I am not willing to lose that representation just
because the other candidate has an impressive resume and many years of service.
And I don’t think you should be either.
I ask you again to vote for J.P.
Frank Fallon…….N2FF
